bareMinerals: Original Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15

Bonjour! Hope all of you have survived your week and are currently enjoying your weekend. Have you checked out Katelyn’s wishlist? Let us know if you think any of those items are worth purchasing or if there are other products you think we should try!

This week we are revisiting an oldie but a goodie…the bareMinerals powder foundation. The first time we tried this product was back in our high school days…and that was quite a while ago.

Description

This is a mineral-based foundation that provides flawless coverage while delivering a natural luminous finish. It contains creamy minerals that have been clinically proven to improve the appearance of skin over time. It buffs into the skin seemlessly and it feels as if you aren’t wearing any foundation. The formula contains no parabens, sulfates or phthalates and is free of preservatives, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, GMOs, triclosan, talc, oil, waxes and fragrances.

A 8g container costs $36CAD/$28.50USD (same for original and matte foundation). There are a total of 32 colours with many different undertones (pink, olive, neutral). This product has also been an Allure Reader’s Choice Award Winner for 10 years(!!!).

Suggested usage:

– Swirl a small amount of the product into the lid with a face brush until all the minerals are tucked into the bristles

– Tap away excess. No visible minerals should be on the outside of the brush.

– Buff the foundation into the skin with circular motions, starting on the perimeter of the your face near your cheekbone, swirling as you go. Buff around your face and then approach your forehead, cheeks, and nose. (Note: this is what is recommended although we usually work the product from the center of our face outwards. That way, we get more coverage around the center of our faces where we may have more redness or discoloration.)

– Keep buffing until you satisfied with the coverage

*Remember less is more when applying this foundation

Review

This foundation has been a staple in our makeup regime for years and for good reason. For a powder, it gives great medium coverage that is buidable while still feeling lightweight. Application is super smooth and it blends into the skin very well which gives you a beautiful natural finish. It looks like your skin but better, so it’s a great everyday foundation!

Despite being a powder, the foundation is not drying at all. It’s great for various skin types, including sensitive, oily, combo or acne prone skin (PS. Katelyn has combo skin and Helen has sensitive combo skin). This foundation has never once irritated our often tempermental skin 😛

The colour selection for this foundation is amazing. We love how BareMinerals has taken into account various undertones within a similar shade range. It reminds us how unique and different our skin is, which is a beautiful thing don’t you think? ❤

It can sometimes cling to dry patches, but even with a liquid foundation the results would be similar. In terms of application we can see that it can be a bit messy when depositing the powder into the lid, but if you are careful it shouldn’t create much of a mess. This product contains an ingredient called “mica” which can clog your pores, but we personally haven’t experienced this ourselves. The foundation is pretty longwearing, but towards the end of the day we do get a bit shiny (happens for almost every foundation we’ve used though).

Full face of make up done! Foundation, blush, bronzer, under eye concealer, mascara

This foundation is also travel-friendly! In terms of packaging, the foundation does twist open and locks easily and securely – we’ve never experienced a spill. Since the packaging is also plastic, it’s very durable. Given that the foundation itself is a powder, it’s definitely a great foundation to carry with you on the plane if you’d like!

Just a sidenote, Helen has used both matte and original formulas and she has found that the results are pretty much the same. The original formula gives you a natural finish while the matte of course mattifies your skin more, but after a few hours the matte foundation ends up giving you the same finish and they both look natural.
